The biggest problem I face when planning for a workout or allotting time to exercise is the sheer motivation it takes to get my butt out the door. Not even out the door - sometimes just to my yoga mat or exercise ball in the next room! It sounds ridiculous but we all have those days where we just want to say 'to Hell with it' and bunk off. Sometimes Pretty Little Liars marathons in bed are just much more appealing (yes, those are a thing). I've really struggled with this over the years, and the guilt that comes with not actually getting off aforementioned backside, so I thought I'd share some of my best butt-kicking booty shakers that get me pumped, or at least sulking out the door, towards exercising.

A 'SECRET WEAPON' SONG: I'm going to share with you something which was a deep, dark secret between myself and the elliptical at my gym for quite a while. No matter how tired I was, or at what stage of my workout, I knew that if I put on 'Omen' by The Prodigy, I would absolutely hammer my workout for as long as the song lasted. I don't know why, but it really got my adrenaline pumping and make me want to go all out. Got a song like that? Say hello to your 'secret weapon' my friend. Whether you blast this song really loud to yourself as you're putting on your trainers (you'll barely notice you're doing it!), or make it your alarm, it will always make you want to go hard or go home. Promise.

GET TUMBLIN': The 'Fitspiration' side of Tumblr is a wonderful, fascinating place. I love these blogs that concentrate on fit, healthy, inspirational posts instead of glorifying 'skinny' and verging into the dangerous world of 'thinspiration' that seems rife everywhere you turn. Until you have seen someone's before and after snaps on here, you haven't known what it is to be motivated. To start you off, I love these few tumblrs. And here's mine!

ENLIST A PAL: A problem shared is a problem halved, so something good shared between two should be fun doubled, right? Something like that. Working out with a friend is a great way to push each other when you feel low or hit a wall, and also means that you'll always have someone to try that new class out with at the gym! Bonus!

SWITCH IT UP: Cardio is a bitch. Let's not skirt around the issue. It's hard work. One thing that makes hard work slightly more tolerable is if you keep it interesting. There is no quicker way to lose motivation than to keep hitting your body with that same 5K run every day. If that's what works for you, amazing, but if, like me, you're prone to a little boredom - keep changing. My workouts have gone from pilates to yoga to Zumba to hip hop classes, to runs, to gym machines, weight lifting, toning workouts on YouTube, Tracy Anderson Methods - you name it, I'll be giving it a whirl. I have yet to find my 'perfect fit' fitness regime but at least I'm enjoying the experimentation!

BAG A FITTY: There's so much to be said for having a mentor. This doesn't have to be a personal trainer, but they serve a similar purpose - find someone in your life who makes their fitness a priority. Maybe they run 5 and 10Ks in their spare time. Maybe they are a passionate cyclist. Maybe they dance. There was no shortage of these type of people at drama school for me but, in the outside world? A little more difficult to come across. My biggest inspiration has been my boyfriend, who took it upon himself to get really fit and eat healthier without a gym membership or any outside pressure. He did it for himself, he's sticking to it, and I think he's pretty amazing. Who's your amazing person?
