My week away was, honestly, fantastic. It was so relaxing to get to the country for some 'fresh air', rambling walks and to keep company with some lovely animals (and my family, too!). I'd go back in a heartbeat. But, after a little re-charge, I was itching to get back home and get back to updating my blog and talking to all of you lovelies again. I know, sad or what?

So I'm back with another crop of the internets finest that I've discovered this week. Enjoy!

  1. I've read a couple of really great articles about how to talk to little girls, which is something I never really considered before, but makes perfect sense. Remember all of those comments (or, even worse sometimes, lack thereof) about being a 'pretty girl' when you were younger? This article explains pretty well why those kind of offhand things can be more damaging than we might think. A close friend is having a baby soon and, boy or girl, I'll be sure to value who they are and what they love when I'm talking to them - eventually!
  2. I have a lot of feelings about this 'Becoming YouTube' segment on 'Girls on YouTube', which has become a topic of debate once more after a few cutting remarks were made over Twitter. I'm sure the intention of the video came from a good place, but some of the sweeping statements bother me. Weigh in!
  3. This article on Jezebel is hilarious, intelligent, and disturbing all at the same time.
  4. I've just discovered Whimsy Online and the concept makes me so happy. I really think digital magazines are bridging the gap between more editorial blogs and magazines beautifully. An important step forward.
  5. I've been loving this new app - OnToday - which at the moment features deals on restaurants, events and things to do for Chester (lucky me), Liverpool and Manchester, but is said to be expanding UK-wide soon!
  6. Barton Hollow by The Civil Wars kept my ears company on the (4 hour long!) train ride down to Sussex, and their song 'My Father's Father' in particular really soothed any frenzied nerves (trust me, train changes and delays are stressful). They've got a new album out on the 6th and I can't wait!
  7. The boy and I are attending a 'James Bond' themed night this coming Friday with his work. I think this dress from All Saints is entirely necessary. Unfortunately, my bank balance does not.
  8. Another companion of mine through painfully long train journeys has been my Podcasts app - Lena Dunham's interview with Jeff Garlin (of Curb Your Enthusiasm fame) was one that made me laugh out loud several times on the train. I'm sure people thought I was a nutter. Accurate.
I really hope you enjoy these picks and you've had a relaxed week. I can't believe it's August and I'm seeing 'back to school' cropping up everywhere. Surely there's still a little more summer I can have?

See you Monday!
