Let me preface this by saying I did not plan for the three lipsticks featured to be all Revlon products but, what can I say? Revlon are killin' it right now with the lacquer launches and these three fit the bill perfectly!

The decade of my youth, that faraway time known as the 90s, has been enjoying a serious comeback lately, which I felt weirdly mixed about. This stuff was awesome the first time around, but there's something about this second coming of stonewashed denim and flatforms that feels disingenuous... Am I the only one? There was a time and a place for Saved By The Bell!

One thing I was really happy about when I thought about this revival? The make-up looks. 90s make up was pretty bomb. When was it ever okay to line your lips with a shade at least 2 tones darker than your lip colour? I rest my case.

The 90s browny/peach toned nude lip is a big look for Spring 2014 and I figured I'd pop on some more accessible, 'dip in the water' shades for those of you wanting to make this trend a little easier to wear. Feel free to go full All Saints 'I Know Where It's At' brown lips if you want, but I've found three shades that do the job beautifully for me, in a subtle way!

Revlon ColourStay Ultimate Suede in Runway: Oh my, the texture of this lipstick. SO buttery soft and really nourishing on the lips (not what you'd expect from a matte, eh?) although I do have to say the colour of this is a little... subtle compared to what I was expecting from the bullet? Nonetheless, a very pretty, natural, everyday shade, and my most-wearable.

Revlon Colourburst Lacquer Balm in Ingenue: Now THIS is the boom-boom-pow I was looking for. Peachy-toned, glossy as you like and, although I'm not mad about the minty-tingly after-sensation, this makes your lips look beautifully full and pouty. For most authentic 90s look? This is the one.

Revlon Lip Butter in Pink Truffle: Gorgeous, pink-based nude with a hint of brown for those who are fearful of looking a little washed-out or accentuating yellow undertones in the skin. You really can't go wrong with the lip butters in terms of wear time and texture, so this would be my overall winner for formula.

Under the jump you'll find full 'looks' with me wearing the ColourStay and ColourBurst Lacquer respectively. For a look with the Lip Butter, see this post!

Are you loving the 90s trends in make-up, or sick of the throwback? What are your choices for this kind of lip look? I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little crazy about it!

  1. LOVE the 90s nice lip!! I always wanted to be Jennifer Aniston when I grew up - she always had impeccable make up! Although, I feel like the 90s weren't long enough ago that they warrant a comeback just yet, it makes me feel old! :(

Wonderful post lovely, and I really enjoyed watching your first YouTube video :) I look forward to seeing more in the future! xx
