So some of you might not know, but it is my 26th birthday in a week's time, and whilst I might have mixed feelings about getting older (I blame a predisposition to anxiety), I always love this time of year. My birthdays growing up were always super special, not because of presents or parties (although I was lucky enough to have more than my fair share) but because of how amazing it was to be around my family. As an expat kid, you don't always appreciate just how far you have to go when your family is multi-national, but memories of birthdays shared between Dubai, Jordan and England will always be cherished. Now, as I get older, I don't get the privilege to spend every birthday with loved ones, and actually this year I'll be spending my day alone, but I think it's important to take time whatever stage of life you're at to reflect, be grateful, appreciate and hell yeah - celebrate yourself a little! Or a lot. There's gonna be ice cream cake.

ANYWAY, I didn't mean for this to turn into a hugely philosophical post, I just wanted to curate a few 'dream picks' that I'd love to receive for this birthday (or any!). Enjoy! And tell me - what would you do if you had to spend your birthday alone? I've got some ideas, but I'd love some more!

  1. Oh just spent my birthday alone last week and shared my thought on the blog! As you said, when you grow up your perspective changes and you greatly appreciate little things in life

Summer GIVEAWAY : Gorgeous LAMARTHE bag that adds style and glamour to your look

  2. So interesting that you grew up in all those interesting places! That's a story right there. But I'm sorry you'll be alone for your birthday this year - I would totally buy you cake if I could! I spent my last birthday working, and no one even knew it was my birthday haha, ahhh adulthood.

Those books - someone's been reading Anna's blog hahaha! I flicked through #Girlboss the other day and it sounds super interesting. I haven't read a book in a while, if you give these a read you'll have to let me know what they're like!

  3. Hey I didn't know you were an expat! Internet fistbump for being a fellow "third culture kid" :D I feel like you have such similar perfume tastes with one of my friends that I am obliged to check out Jo Malone (it's her birthday soon, and I'm trying to get her something more personal this year!) x

  4. I'm turning 26 this year myself and it's so frightening! Can you believe we're closer to 30 than we are to 20 now?! I try to remember that age is just a number and we're all on different journeys in life, but I think it's still totally normal to freak out a little every birthday after 21!

You've got some lovely things on your wishlist here. I'm after the Nike Frees 5.0s myself. I have the 3.0s, but the tongue of the shoe doesn't flip out (it's kind of like an all enclosed shoe), which makes them difficult to get on and they're a little tight when I'm exercising. I want the black and white ones too - so sleek! I've got #Girlboss, Bossypants and Not That Kind of Girl all on my book wishlist too. I love Nasty Gal as a shop, plus Tina Fey and Lena Dunham are two amazing ladies!

I spent my birthday alone last year and I have to admit, I felt a little down, but at the same time, it was quite empowering to spend the day you'd usually share with loved ones completely on my own. I was living alone in Sydney and my friends weren't available to go out that day, but I took myself out shopping and treated myself to a new iPhone and some Ladurée macarons! It did feel a little lonely, but I think it's important to be able to enjoy your own company and not rely on anyone to make you happy. Put on your favourite makeup and outfit, and go out and treat yourself! I think it's the little things that can still make your birthday feel special on your own. :)

  5. You best treat yourself lots on your birthday, lovely! x
