Planning for city break anything makes me think of three words: day-to-night. Whether it's footwear, fashion or face bases, I want something that can be versatile if I end up staying out all night. I went to New York last month and, while I didn't end up wearing a full face of make up every day, I always wanted definition where it mattered most, and that's what I've gone with with these picks.

The Diorskin Nude BB Creme in 002 has more or less been my staple base of choice over the spring and summer months - I'm not a super heavy coverage girl and I love the natural, dewy finish of this. Paired with the Revlon PhotoReady primer, it's healthy, heavenly looking skin in a flash. Both of these can be applied and blended with fingers in a doddle, so touch ups are an easy thing to do on-the-go, even though this primer pretty much negates any call for that! For the evening or if things get a little shiny during the day, I love powdering with my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light, which looks pretty ethereal of a night time and gives you that 'lit from within' look.

Versatility and definition being the name of the game, I went for my one-stop, blush-and-contour pick - the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed. This. Blush. Goes. With. Everything. Go with a light hand if you want a subtle flush, or move your placement slightly if you want to use this for more of a contour - this brings life, warmth, and sculpting powers to the face. I love it, and if I'm ever in doubt over which blush won't clash with my lip colour, this is the guy I reach for.

Long, fluttery lashes that won't budge are the order of the day, and Maybelline Full N' Soft has you covered. I brush this nice, thin wand right to the root of my lash, give a little wiggle, and boom - defined, flirty eyelashes I never knew I had. I also really love using this on bottom lashes for a more defined look, or for evening. I also love a cat flick and I swear I'm slowly getting better at them, but when I'm in a hurry I want something that's easy to get right. The Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner has such a precise point that even I have noticed my wobbly-ass hands somehow manage to create a neat, slick line. Love.

Lips? Simples. Bolds and nudes. Every time. The most flattering nude I've come across yet is the Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Notting Hill Nude. This is that gorgeous balance of pink and brown that just makes you glad that someone has done all the hard work for you and your perfect nude is here. Gawjus. I've also included from the same line the shade In Love With Ginger because damn if this isn't the most wearable orange-red ever. The wearability leaves a little to be desired, but I sense if this shade stuck around any longer you might lose out on some of its moisturizing properties, so I'll let you off, Rimmel. The Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Tannin is a Maleficent-esque red red which requires zero effort to apply. See here. Rock with a cocktail and proceed to kick off your dancin' shoes at 3AM. It'll still be around.

For extras, it was a pretty simple call to include the Oribe Dry Texturising Spray in here. If you don't have time to style your hair, if you've styled it and want to give it some sexy oomph, if you're confused as fuh about what to do with it - this bottle has all the answers. It's begging to be toted around London and New York after hours to help keep your selfies on point. Go forth and spray liberally in the ladies. I also love the idea of rollerball scents - can we please have more of these in the UK?! One of my tried-and-true faves is Zara Black - it's sleek, sexy, subtle and feminine. Day to night covered, roll on at will.

Are you guys heading on a city break soon? What are your must-pack items?

  1. Basically I think I just need you to come on a shopping trip with me and tell me exactly what make up and hair stuff to get - I'm so useless. Thank goodness for summer and tanned skin, I just need mascara and I'm good to go.

  2. Exposed looks really beautiful, I love blush shades that go with everything! xx

  3. Great post. I really want to get my hands on one of those Tarte blushes, they sound amazing!
