For the final post of guest blogger week, I am super stoked to bring you someone I not only admire for her incredible blog, Like Neon Love (if you don't follow, you should, like yesterday), but also personally for her kindness and generosity of spirit. It's not very often you get chatting to someone halfway across the world and get a real sense of who they are. I'm talking of course about Tenneil and, girl, you are wonderful. I'm so grateful she could put aside a little time to bring you this post today because this lady has exquisite taste, and out of the four items in this post I don't have? Two were already on my wishlist, and now another two things have been added! D'oh! So let me introduce you to my favourite enabler, and sorry in advance to your bank balances!

It’s hard for me to schedule in the time to blog on my own blog let alone guest blog, but when Tami asked me if I would like to write a little something for her, I was really excited to do so and hey, it’s nice to help out a friend in need! I decided to whip up together a post on my top five makeup staples because surely that seems quick and easy enough, right? Wrong. I can’t even tell you how long I stared at my collection of makeup for and over the years, I have definitely acquired my fair share of it, all of which I really love. Plus, I just feel bad playing favourites. Nevertheless, after some thoughtful consideration, I managed to narrow it down and in no particular order, here is what I consider the best of the best in the contents of my acrylic drawers.

I’ve raved on about this foundation numerous times on my blog and after going through a fair few bottles of it now, it’s safe to say that NARS Sheer Glow holds the number one spot as my favourite foundation. Summer or winter, this foundations works well during any time of the year. It’s medium coverage, which can definitely be built up to full, and while it’s by no means a sheer foundation, I think it gets its name from the fresh, youthful glow it provides the skin. I’ve had customers at work and even sales assistants when I’m shopping myself ask me what foundation I’m wearing, and it’s always Sheer Glow. Amazing, amazing stuff.

Another foundation I absolutely adore comes in the form of Chanel Vitalumière Aqua. Two foundations in a mere top five favourites may seem a little excessive, but honestly, there was no blush, lipstick nor eyeshadow that trumped the love I have for this foundation. Many people say that it doesn’t provide enough coverage, but I’d say it’s definitely medium. As a water based foundation, it’s not the longest lasting, but it’s natural looking and will make your skin radiate from within. Plus, that’s nothing a little powder can’t fix! I’m not one to really care about the scent in makeup, especially in foundation, but the fragrance of this? Oh, my! It’s absolutely beautiful and luxurious, and it just makes me feel like a princess.

MAC lipsticks make up the majority of my lip products in my makeup collection and the absolute staple for me is the MAC lipstick by the name Ruby Woo. Every girl needs a classic red lip and for me, this is it. A vibrant blue toned red, it’s got that whole retro 50s vibe going on and as a cool toned lip colour, I find this suits my complexion so much more than those with pink undertones. It’s super, super matte, so it’s on the drying side, but just make sure you’ve exfoliated your lips and you’re well hydrated! It’s a small price to pay for this stunner of a lipstick… plus, either way, you should really be drinking your eight glasses.

Everyone has a beauty weakness and mine juts so happens to be blush. When it came down to choosing my holy grail, it was definitely an overwhelming process, but at the same time, the winner for me was clear. MAC’s Powder Blush in Margin has proudly belonged in my makeup collection for a good few years now and while I fall in and out of love with so many, this has always held a place in my heart. It was briefly replaced by Benefit’s Coralista, but after a mini freakout over hitting pan on it, I went back to Margin and our love was rekindled. Considering how much I use this, I’m surprised I haven’t hit pan on it, but I dread the day I do. It’s described as a “muted peach with golden shimmer” and I find it makes my skin glow while looking healthy and sun-kissed. If I’m having a bad skin day, I’ll instantly feel better about myself when I wear this blush.

To roundup my five holy grail makeup items is the Urban Decay Naked Palette. As with MAC’s blush in Margin, I’m surprised I haven’t hit pan on this either, but for me, I just find it really hard to hit pan on eyeshadows! Urban Decay’s Naked Palettes are such a genius idea because for a reasonable price, you get a wonderful array of twelve neutral eyeshadows and who doesn’t love a good neutral? Super travel friendly, this comes with me wherever I’m jet setting off to and if I can’t decide what eyeshadow to wear for the day, I’m most likely to resort to this. The colours are probably more on the warm side and while I do prefer my cool tones, I love these shades on me - my favourites being Sin, Sidecar, Buck, Smog, Darkhorse, Toasted and Hustle. While I absolutely adore MAC eyeshadows, you really can’t go past the convenience and price of an Urban Decay Naked Palette. I recently just bought myself the Naked 2 and I’m super excited to get wearing it!

What are your makeup staples?

  1. Ohh, I am so purchasing that MAC blush when I'm next in MAC, it looks amazing! I need a more peachy colour and this looks so pretty!

I have to admit, I am fully sold on Nars Sheer Glow now. It truly is amazing, and has the most beautiful finish!

  2. Ah everyone is convincing me to try the Sheer Glow. It sounds amazing, but I've also heard people say that it's not in fact 'glow'y at all! Love MAC lipsticks and my Naked 2 is definitely one of my fave palettes. The Naked 1 looks like a stunner too.

    1. Naked 1 is incredible, promise! It's such a good staple, you really can't go wrong, and like with all UD the eyeshadows are so pigmented and buttery - it's just heaven. T xx

  3. I have the Naked 3 palette and it was definitely my favourite, until the Bobbi Brown Sand palette came into my life! I love the look of Ruby Woo too, I don't have enough red MAC lipsticks.

  4. You're so welcome, girly! I had so much fun putting this blog post together for you, so it was no trouble at all! You definitely need ALL these products in your life and I guarantee you will not be disappointed. I'd say start with NARS Sheer Glow and definitely swatch Margin and Ruby Woo when you just so happen to be near a MAC counter. After that, feel free to rant and rave about how awesome my recommendations are and how right I was. Haha.
