Today I thought it'd be rad to talk about how my skin has decided to completely eff me over, because you know - we can kick it like that here on TGG. Since my doctor changed my contraceptive pill, the skin on my face decided to do a little 180 and go from dry and sensitive (what it has been my entire teenage/adult life) to combination-oily. I'd reach up to move a hair from my face at work and look down at my hand and it would be glowing. Not in a good way, in a chip fat way. Might be TMI, but THESE THINGS ARE NO JOKE. Oily-skinned gals, you totally have been fighting battles in silence. My thoughts are with you always.

So after texting nigh-on everyone I'm close to and having a little internal freakout, I decided it was time to get resourceful. I had a deep bathroom-drawer full of skincare and now was the time for the underused products to shine. Except not really. I wanted pretty much the anti-shine arsenal. I tried practically every cleanser I owned, different serums, new moisturisers and whilst some helped considerably (shout-out Malin and Goetz's Grapefruit gel cleanser), I was still experiencing shine and oil build-up by around 2pm every day. Pouty and all further options exhausted, I decided to make use of an impending trip to Chester, home of my beloved Space NK...

The Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel was oft-praised by beauty heavyweights like Lily Pebbles and Anna Gardiner, so I knew it was one worth looking into. The ingredients list reads like a tickbox of happy-skin food - pumpkin enzymes, Vitamin C and E - and it's a non-foaming cleanser, so I knew it wouldn't dehydrate the surface of my skin and end up making the problem worse. I had high hopes upon first use that night, and to say that this cleanser surpassed them would be a massive understatement.

The only other product I can recall seeing such a huge difference after first use was my previous cleanser, the Emma Hardie cleansing balm. I've been happy for years with that cleanser, but after using this one? I could feel myself kissing it goodbye. I walked into the room after using this and my boyfriend - yes, the male of the species - remarked that I was glowing and asked what I had done differently. Glowing. Do you know how hard it is to elicit an adjective like that from a guy?!

And I had to agree with him - my skin was marble smooth, soft, and yep - actual glowing was happening. Not a trace of oil to be seen... And it didn't reappear. I didn't wake up feeling like I needed to blot my entire face and since using this regularly, those afternoon shine sessions have disappeared. It has completely changed my skin for the better, and I don't think I can see myself going back anytime soon. At £28 it is cheaper than my last cleanser, but you do get less product, so the value is better with the Emma Hardie balm, however for the results? I'm happy to fork out a little.

I can't imagine this not suiting anyone - perhaps when winter comes, if my skin gets drier I might need to use my Emma Hardie for one cleanse a day - but I don't think the Oskia gel will ever be too far from my regular routine. For me, it has been a game-changer, and I'm restocking as soon as I'm near a Space NK again!

  1. It's truly one of the best. If you're looking for another to complement it, during warmer months when my skin is more on the oily side I use the oskia as a morning or first cleanse and the Sunday riley ceramic slip as second. It really helps with a bit of oil control and deeper cleansing when needed but doesn't dry my skin out at all.

    1. My girl, it has a very subtle, sweet, spa-like scent - I actually prefer the scent of it to Emma Hardie! The texture too. Even the colour - can you tell I'm in love! T xx
